Yes, today we have a new president. Right now at 12:06pm, President Obama has just taken office. And what do we have to show for it? A fucking cavalcade of entertainment.

Where are the politics? Since when has Ms. Franklin been a leading political figure? Was it necessary to have lib web cam coverage of every city known to man?

Big screens and musical performances outweigh the actuality of what happened: a president capable of changing the country has been elected. And all I can focus on is the atrocity that came out of Aretha Franklin’s mouth… the power of music.

What happened to the good ol days when politics were less show and more… politics?

I’ve never been one to drool over the political scene, but I think I’d me more apt if I didn’t have to listen to trashy music and purchase every “Obama for yo mama” shirt, cup, commemorative plate, etc.

To the people of the United States of America: thanks for turning the inauguration into another commercial/hallmark day.

So, it has been awhile. The holiday season led me to be busier than I expected–what with celebrations and working at the kennel. And alas, I am back at school now. It is my last semester ever and I am a little panicked by it. Though, things are slowly unfolding. Very slowly, but slowly.

The best news so far of the semester: I got my haircut and I like it.

Miserable. Weather. My poor doggy cannot even make it outside (weiner dog plus foot of snow equals a very cold weiner weiner). It’s blowing and drifting and windy and messy. I cannot even get to my car if I wanted too. The fiance got stuck leaving for work this morning (after getting stuck Friday when this all started). Miserable. I hope it clears up by tomorrow because mom (who just had surgery Wednesday) is going a bit stir crazy and wants to get out of the house. I fear that if she doesn’t she may lose it and try and rip her tubes out. 

Anyway, getting excited for Christmas. I will be working, but still having time to celebrate with people. I have all my shopping done, now it’s just putting presents together and wrapping.  I had to borrow some money from mom, but at least I will be working to pay her back. The holiday schedule looks like this:

Dustin’s Family XMAS on the 24th in the AM
Brunch on the 24th
Xmas at Grammy’s (Dustin’s) PM 24th
Heading to XMAS EVE with my family PM 24th
Working XMAS morning from 8-1
XMAS with my mom and possibly brother/niece/his gf/Dustin PM 25th
Tentative XMAS with Angela and Sheri on the 29th-30th (we party hard).
NYE on the 31st
Working again on the 2nd.

I don’t know why I felt the need to post that. Maybe to remind myself. But it looks like a nice holiday schedule.

Been battling a series of headaches lately. I think they are sinus headaches, but who knows… I hope that’s what they are, anyway.

I think it’s time to post this entry before I ramble on endlessly about a lot of nothing.

Unpacking/cleaning after a temporary move home is NOT fun. On the plus side (or down side if you look at my bank account) I do not have to work until Christmas morning. That sounds sad, but that means Christmas just lasts a little longer and I get to celebrate Christmas day with the fiance, too (which usually doesn’t happen). Let me explain a bit about my Christmas traditions.

Growing up, it was always the same, quick Christmas. Christmas mass on Xmas Eve around midnight and then going to Grandpa’s for snacks until we couldn’t stay awake. I would come home and forced to stay in my room while mom and dad played Santa. Wake up Christmas morning, open presents, wait til grandpa comes around 11 and open more presents and then it was done.

Since I met Dustin, Christmas has become a bit more… of a holiday. Christmas Eve is his family’s Christmas day. So, we wake up early Xmas Eve and open gifts. Have a HUGE brunch. Spend the day relaxing until a dinner and exchanging family gifts. Then he and I go to my house for the Xmas Eve mass (which neither of us attend) and then he goes to his Dad’s for Xmas day. And I spend Xmas day the same as usual.

This year I am working Xmas morning (which is nice because I will get a decent bonus). I won’t get home until 1pm and then I have to shower, etc. So, that means Xmas doesn’t start until about 2pm. Dustin should be done with his dad by then so he can be there Xmas day with me. I’m so excited for that.

I’m sorry this is so rambly…

In other news. Mom had another surgery today (for those of you who don’t know she is undergoing reconstructive surgery after a bout with the flesh eating bacteria–I kid you not). She is in quite a bit of pain and I am playing “nurse maid” as Dustin’s mom likes to call it. It’s a bit rough because she needs a lot, but I don’t mind. I just want her to feel better… you know, she’s all I got left and she’s kind of grown on me.

Anyway, I’ll be glad when this vacation from school is over and sad, too.

In other other news. I have a new pet mouse (after much coaxing from Dustin–who mostly gives in because it shuts me up). I haven’t named her yet, but she squeaks all the time and I think it is quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever witnessed in my life. I need a name, though…

Okay, enough procrastinating. Time to finish cleaning this mess of a room. I have way too much stuff.

I think there is a pile of rainbow vomit next to my computer and it is screaming in pain because this is way too cute.

All day. Sleep. Am I sick? I don’t really know. I don’t really care. All I know is I have done a whole lot of nothing with myself today and now I must do laundry. Not that I had a lot to do, but I still feel like I should have done something a bit more productive than sitting around sleeping and watching Horton Hears a Who (a fabulous movie by the way). 

Anyway, this is the first finals week where I have really had nothing to do. I had one test Monday and I have a scene I am directing Friday… and that’s it. It feels weird because I am usually busting my ass during finals week. I feel kind of guilty and bad for everyone else, but at the same time… not so much. 

I just want to be home. Of course, once I get there I’ll want to be back at Naz. I miss the comfort of my house–mostly the kitties and Shaggy–but I love having my own space. It wasn’t so bad to be at Naz when I had my hamsters, but well that is another story for another time.

Speaking of Naz, we have another new roommate moving in next semester (this makes roomate 4 DREAM BIG). A friend of my other roommate. I’ll tell you one thing, as much as I love having roommates, it will be nice to have ONE roommate for a LONG TIME. This switching business gets old… heh.

I should probably do a bit more with myself so I don’t feel so bad about staying in sweatpants all day. Though, now that I think of it… I wore these last night and probably should not wear them to the meeting tonight… what a waste of life I am…

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz falling asleep at my keyboard.   I may not make it through the day. You will find me curled up in a snowy ball form outside of the apartment. Soooo tired.

Life has begun unfolding. I guess it did 21 years and 8 months ago, but it truly has begun unfolding in the past few months. Engagement, working through traumas, impending graduation doom, etc etc. This blog could be interesting or it could not be. It has the potential.
